You Already Know What to Do. So Why Aren't You Doing It?

My conversation with Anne Bachrach on The Accountability Coach podcast

You know you should make the calls.

You know you should delegate.

You know you should have that hard conversation.

And yet.

Anne Bachrach, known as The Accountability Coach, opened our conversation with the question I hear most from the founders I work with. If you already know the right move, why don't you make it?

Here is my answer. It's rarely a lack of information. It's the thought running quietly underneath.

I know this one from the inside. After 25 years in HR, I had sat on the other side of hundreds of interviews. I knew exactly what to say. Then my chapter ended on someone else's terms. I walked into an interview. And I froze.

Knowing was never the problem.

What we talked about

  • Why the first step is to put the business aside and ask: what do I really care about?

  • How hidden thoughts drive procrastination, like "I'm bothering people" when it's time to pick up the phone

  • Why I rehearse under hypnosis: sales calls, interviews, big presentations, even letting someone go

  • The three families of thoughts I see behind "I can't delegate"

  • Why the same behaviour can come from very different thoughts in two different people

  • High achievers, the bars set by others, and the deal makers for whom it's never enough

  • Why so many entrepreneurs carry their doubts alone, especially when they're selling

  • A simple journal: not about your thoughts, about how the day felt in your body

Your mind has already been there

The part that surprised Anne most was the rehearsal.

Under hypnosis, we make the call. We give the presentation. We have the difficult conversation. Again and again, until it feels familiar.

Your mind learns from the rehearsal. So when you walk into the room, you've already been there.

I'm not interested in "I feel better." I'm interested in "I did it differently." The client who gave the best presentation of their career. The one who finally looked the interviewer in the eye.

One thing to try this week

At the end of the day, ask yourself one question.

Was my body in connection, or in protection?

Your body gives you information long before your brain does. Learn to listen to it.

If one of these thoughts sounds familiar, send me a little hello. I'd love to hear which one.

Hypnotically yours,

Janylène xo
