You Sold the Business. Now Who Are You?

My conversation with Vince Warnock on Chasing the Insights.

You spend years building it.

The team. The clients. The reputation. The 60-hour weeks nobody sees.

And then one day, you sell.

The bank account fills up. The calendar empties out.

And a quiet question arrives that no advisor prepared you for.

Who am I now?

You have a finance team. A tax team. Consultants. Every one of them has a stake in how the deal turns out. Not one of them is simply there for you — to sit with the part of this that has nothing to do with the numbers.

That's the conversation I had with Vince Warnock on Chasing the Insights.

I know this shift from the inside.

For 25 years I was a senior HR executive — the last chapter at Deloitte. My calendar was booked a year in advance. I knew, months ahead, which room I'd be in.

Then my corporate career ended, on someone else's terms. Overnight, the calendar emptied.

Three days later I sat down for an interview and I froze. Drew a blank. The woman who had spent a career knowing exactly what to say couldn't get one sentence out.

Walking out, it landed: I hadn't been wearing a job. I'd been wearing an identity. And when the role walked out the door, part of who I thought I was went with it.

On Chasing the Insights, Vince and I went straight into it:

  • why your identity starts to shake at the due diligence stage — long before the deal ever closes

  • the moment the relationship with your buyer quietly shifts from equal to something else

  • why so many founders sell and realize they have no idea what they love, or who they are, without the business

  • the dimmer, not the switch — fading into your next life instead of flipping it on overnight

  • the 7 out of 10 life: the one that looks like a 10 from the outside and runs at a 7 within

  • treating your purpose like a side hustle, starting now

  • what to protect once you're home with the money — community, movement, projects, and the connection you built before you needed it

Here's the part I most want you to take from it.

What you care about — really care about, underneath the title and the numbers — doesn't disappear when the business does. It just needs a new form.

Selling isn't the finish line. It's the starting one.

And when you've listened, come tell me what your empty-calendar moment sounds like. Faites-moi un petit coucou. I'd love to hear.
