Knowing Is Not Doing

A new conversation on the Give A Heck Podcast — and why I'd love you to listen.

You already know what to do.

You've known for a while.

And still — something holds you in place.

That gap, between knowing and doing, is where I spend my days now. It's also where I stayed stuck myself, for longer than I'd like to admit.

For twenty-five years I was a senior HR executive. Eight of them at Deloitte. I read rooms for a living. I walked hundreds of people through change and knew exactly what to say in almost any moment.

Then my corporate career ended — on someone else's terms.

Three days later I sat down for an interview and I froze. Not nervous. Frozen. The woman who had coached so many people through this exact moment couldn't answer a single question.

That was the day I stopped believing that knowing is enough.

On the Give A Heck Podcast, I sat down with Dwight Heck and we went into all of it. Honestly, and without much of a filter.

We talked about:

  • the gap between knowing and doing, and what actually lives inside it

  • what a frozen interview reveals about the beliefs quietly running your life

  • what nine years of sobriety taught me that no certification ever could

  • Peel Back · Rewire · Rise — my method, and why most people skip the one step that makes the rest work

  • the two fears I find under almost every stuck point: the fear of being alone, and the fear of judgement (on that second one, I'll only say this here — judgement belongs to the one who judges)

  • and my not-so-popular opinion about the personal-development industry: the one that runs almost entirely on telling you that you're not enough yet

Here's the part I care about most.

You are not a project to be fixed. You are not a rough draft of someone better waiting somewhere up ahead. You are already whole. The real question was never how do I become more. It's what do I want to experience next.

That's not a slogan. It's where the work actually begins.

If you've ever done everything right on paper and still felt the quiet distance between the life you show and the one you feel — this conversation is for you.

Pour yourself something warm. Take the hour. And afterward, if something lands — tell me. I read every note.
