From the outside, they have it all.

The title. The business. The life people envy.

And yet.

When I ask my new clients where their life sits on a scale of 1 to 10, most of them say 7.

No crisis. No drama. Just a quiet gap they cannot quite name.

I know that gap well.

After 25 years in senior HR leadership, a restructuring emptied my calendar overnight. Three days later, I walked into an interview for a VP HR role at a bank.

I was an ace at interviews.

I drew a blank.

I could see myself answering, and I knew my answers made no sense. My body simply refused to go there.

Walking home, it became very clear. I did not need another executive job. I needed a transformation.

What I could not see yet: I was numbing. For me, it was wine. For others, it is online shopping, scrolling, or more work. You only notice the numbness once it lifts.

I became sober at 49. I started my business at 51.
